Meratus Line has expanded its network in Nusa Tenggara Timur by opening a new direct service from Surabaya to Maumere in Flores Island. The MV. Mentaya River on her maiden voyage to Maumere sailed from Surabaya on November 30, 2009 and arrived right on schedule on December 3, carrying, among other cargoes the much awaited supplies for the community’s Christmas and New Year festivals.
The province of Nusa Tenggara Timur consisted of hundreds of islands; the major islands are West Timor, Sumba, and Flores islands. The famous Komodo Dragons, the unique giant lizard species, are found only on the islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores and Gili Montang within this province.
The Surabaya to Maumere direct service with a 10 days frequency complements the existing Meratus Line service network to the eastern islands of Indonesia; there are already regular shuttle services from Surabaya to Kupang in West Timor, Benete Bay in Sumbawa, and to Dili, the capital of Timor Leste.
We hope to bring benefits to the economy and people of Nusa Tenggara Timur by providing a safe and regular container service. Goods and supplies from Surabaya will be brought more regularly – while the goods and commodities from Nusa Tenggara Timur will be transported in a secure and timely manner to any areas in Indonesia with possibilities for direct export overseas.
